What it is
Kindling is self-hosted personal finance built on the premise that your money data should never leave your machine.
The stack
- Plaid pulls accounts, balances, and transactions from your banks
- SQLite holds everything locally, one file you own and can back up
- Your own LLM does the categorization, search, and monthly-narrative work, so no third-party SaaS ever sees a transaction
Private by default: unlike the hosted budgeting apps, there is no vendor cloud in the middle. You run it, you hold the keys, and the whole thing is a Next.js app you can stand up on a homelab box or a laptop.
It is the finance counterpart to the rest of the self-hosted stack: the same instinct that says the harness, the search index, and the second brain should live on hardware you control, applied to the most sensitive data there is.
